A New Dawn

A new dawn

Two months here in IIT Gn and this place already feels like my own home. These months have been like a rollercoaster ride and I hope it continues this way for the coming four years.

A small insight into the highlight of my stay here: THE FOUNDATION PROGRAMME.

18TH July, a day that is deeply engraved in our minds, the day when we started a new journey, a new life.

None of us knew what lay ahead. We were told something about a 5 week foundation program but had no idea about what it would be like.

Unsure and confused we began our journey with the very first lecture by none other than the famed cofounder of Infosys, Mr. Narayan Murthy himself. What followed were a series of lectures, some interesting and some not so interesting, quite a few interaction and fun sessions which were certainly the best part of the day.

As time passed, we got to know our batch mates, our seniors and faculty members too. And sooner than later IIT gandhinagar felt like a home away from home and the fact that none of us miss home is a good testimony to the fact that IIT gandhinagar is indeed a home and the people here a family.

A lot of good memories are attached to the foundation program. Be it making new friends, meeting eminent personalities, or attending workshops and field trips.

The cleanliness drive was one such trip, certainly one of a kind, something none of us had ever experienced and I am sure none of us would have, had we been somewhere else.

The various workshops we had like, drawing, theatrical, hip-hop, etc., helped us in exploring ourselves and finding our passions.

The best thing about the foundation program was undoubtedly the event ‘EUREKA’ we organized. It was an amazing experience, organizing an event that too in the very first month was like a rare opportunity and all of us loved it. Obviously it wouldn’t have been possible without the help and guidance we got from our seniors. The show gave us another opportunity to carry forward the passion and interests we had discovered.

The foundation program indeed stayed true to its name. It laid foundation of our next four years here. It succeeded in its objective to make us more aware of our surroundings and showed us that there is more to life than just physics, chemistry and math.

It was a fantastic experience and I genuinely hope that this tradition continues because I feel that it is a good way to start exploring all the latent talents that resides in each of us. It was a reckoning that the stature of IITs is because they don’t just focus on making good engineers, but they make good human beings.

All in all the last month has certainly been ‘A Month to Remember’ for me and certainly for most of my batch-mates too.
